Katherine Burghardt Kramer
Meet Katie, a partner in our New York office who effortlessly balances the hustle of city life with the serenity of rural Vermont. A graduate of Stanford Law School and Yale University, she was drawn to DTO Law for its bi-coastal presence and the opportunity to collaborate with enthusiastic, driven colleagues in an elite litigation boutique.
When she's not practicing law, Katie divides her time between two distinct worlds. At her historic 1820s Vermont farmhouse, set on an acre of rural land, she finds particular joy in savoring the starlit sky and pristine quiet after a day of work in New York—luxuries that city life cannot offer. Her Vermont days are filled with skiing in winter and lakeside adventures in summer, while her NYC time is spent discovering new bars, restaurants, and museums. A natural host, Katie loves opening her home for informal gatherings with other families and friends. But above all, she cherishes time with her children Ethan (12) and Anna (9), whom she lovingly describes as delightful.
Katie's approach to legal work comes with its own soundtrack—the Metallica S&M album from 1999, which she considers the perfect accompaniment for cranking out briefs, paired with her signature iced coffee with cream (no sugar). During her Stanford years, Katie’s favorite spots on campus were those shaded by palm trees, a daily reminder of the West Coast charm that captured this East Coaster’s heart.
Her legal journey was profoundly shaped by her clerkship with Judge Andrew Guilford in 2010-2011, whose thoughtful mentorship and caring leadership left an indelible mark. She particularly valued how he took time to explain why he made certain decisions, even if she occasionally disagreed. If given the chance to dine with anyone, she would choose Sandra Day O'Connor, drawn to the former Justice's groundbreaking achievements and measured approach to jurisprudence—a trailblazer with wisdom to share.

Associate
Silicon Valley

Meet Richard, an associate in our Silicon Valley office who brings a unique blend of literary scholarship and legal expertise to the team. A graduate of Stanford Law School, he also holds a Ph.D. in English from UC Berkeley—a background that shines through in his choice of Walt Whitman's "Crossing Brooklyn Ferry" as his guiding inspiration.
When he's not practicing law, Richard can often be spotted at Verve Coffee Roasters, sipping his go-to cappuccino while perhaps contemplating his own unexpected piece of presidential history—he actually did meet Richard Nixon in person, albeit briefly, on Halloween in 1993. A former ice hockey player and skier, he now dedicates his leisure time to family life, though he still carries a torch for his beloved (if currently disappointing) New York Rangers and Yankees.
His eclectic tastes span from Shakespearean literature to spy novels, and while his academic expertise lies in 16th- and 17th-century English literature, these days you're more likely to find him engrossed in detective fiction or tuned into the "Know Your Enemy" podcast. A rock-and-roll enthusiast with a particular fondness for the sounds of the '60s and '70s, Richard's contribution to the office playlist—Silver Jews' "American Water"—offers a glimpse into his musical sensibilities.
If given the chance to dine with anyone throughout history, Richard would choose Shakespeare, hoping to unravel some of the mystery behind the brilliant but inscrutable Bard—a fitting choice for someone who has dedicated years to studying English literature before turning to law.

Fiona Hathaway
Meet Fiona, an associate in our New York office who brings an international perspective and creative spirit to the team. A graduate of NYU Law with degrees from University College London and Durham University, she was drawn to DTO Law for its boutique-style culture and opportunities for early responsibility.
When she's not practicing law, Fiona is likely to be found crafting colorful blankets through her passion for fiber arts. An accomplished knitter, crocheter, and weaver, she finds joy in seeing loved ones wrapped in her handmade creations. Between stitches, she recharges at hot yoga classes or loses herself in a good book.
Despite the early weekend wake-up calls, Fiona remains a devoted fan of her hometown soccer team, Newcastle United, faithfully tuning in to matches from across the Atlantic—sometimes as early as 7:30 a.m. Her connection to her British roots also shows in her coffee preference: a perfectly crafted flat white with oat milk, which she enjoys year-round.
True to her desire to build deep relationships within a close-knit firm, Fiona embodies the blend of professional ambition and personal warmth that makes DTO special.
